Demystifying Technology

Digital literacy is crucial to helping students become lifelong learners. Digital literacy also helps students understand the importance of critical thinking and how to evaluate both the quality and relevance of digital resources. Or alternatively: digital literacy = digital tool knowledge + critical thinking + social engagement.

The need for digital literacy is on the rise. Digital literacy is an important skill for students, business professionals, and people in general. It is a skill that people need to become more familiar with today than ever before.  With the rise of the Internet, technology, and the amount of information available, people need to be aware of how to use and understand what they are looking at.  This includes knowing how to use the Internet safely and effectively, and how to use technology in the workplace.

Skills you’ll learn:

Collaboration – The ability to work collaboratively with others, with strong interpersonal and team related skills

Creativity – Being able to weigh up opportunities in an entrepreneurial manner and ask the right questions to generate new ideas

Critical thinking – Being able to evaluate information and arguments, identify patterns and connections, and construct meaningful knowledge and apple it in the real world

Citizenship – The ability to consider issues and solve complex problems based on a deep understanding of diverse values and a worldview

Character – Traits such as grit, tenacity, perseverance, and resilience; alongside a desire to make learning an integral part of living

Communication – Being able to communicate effectively through a variety of methods and tools to a range of different audiences
