NYIT Advance Program with SpringBoard Incubators
Fall 2022
This course provided the skills and tools necessary for a technical career in Engineering and also enabled students to develop confidence in their academic endeavors.
The course explored different engineering disciplines, real-world applications of those disciplines and taught students to identify and reflect on the connections between different values and interests.
Solar Tracker Project
The NYIT ETCS Workshop included an assignment where students completed a Solar Tracker Project. Students were taught photovoltaic systems which consist of renewable energy sources, mounting structure, power inverters, energy storage, energy access, and how to build a resistor network. They were also taught lessons on solar panels and how natural factors, placement, temperature, and surface conditions affect their efficiency and how temperature control, better placement, maintenance, reflectors and solar tracking can increase it. Our instructor discussed Voltage Divider Circuits, which are the most important circuits in the field of electrical engineering. The students were taught how to calculate output voltages on a voltage divider circuit using mathematical equations and how a potentiometer can change the value of the output voltage by turning a knob. The students became familiar with Arduino IDE and were taught the difference between void-setup and void-loop, digital and analog.
