Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Hackathon?

A Hackathon is an overnight programming competition that presents an opportunity to learn and share ideas with others. Participants are encouraged to team up and develop a project within the given time frame. Projects can stem from wide range of different ideas, from mobile and web applications, to games and interactive software, or even hardware inventions and modifications. We have no limitations on the ideas developed, and participants can show anything they have produced by judging time at the end of the event.

How long is Hackathon?

Our Hackathon runs for 24 hours, from 6:00pm on Friday to 6:00pm on Saturday. Judging occurs at 6:00pm, which may last up to an additional hour.

Am I required to stay for the entire duration?

Participants are only required to check in on Zoom at the start time. They are then free to stay and develop, or come and go as they please. Any participant that wishes to submit a project must return at 6:00pm for judging.

Can I bring any code written prior?

All code must be written during the time of the event. However, participants may use any libraries/frameworks that are already available for public use.

Do I need any prior coding experience?

Coding experience is not necessary! If you have an idea you would like to use for a project, feel free to contact other participants who may help you execute your idea. We also offer workshops over the course of the event to help those uncomfortable with diving into a project right away.

What should I bring?

We recommend that participants bring their own laptop computer.
